Moving House With a Cat: What to Do With Them on Moving Day

Plan a secure space for your cat on moving day, choose care that suits your move, and help them settle into your new home in Singapore.

The priority on moving day is a secure, closed space for your cat. If one room can stay off limits, keep them there with familiar bedding and tell the movers not to enter. If that is not practical, arrange off-site care before the doors start opening. Either way, prepare one quiet room in the new home before your cat arrives.

Before the movers arrive

Choose the arrangement that keeps a door securely closed. Cats Protection recommends a dedicated room at the existing home, cleared of boxes and marked so movers know not to enter. Put the litter tray, food, water and a familiar bed inside. When it is time to leave, move your cat in a secure carrier.

If no room can remain secure, a sitter away from the property, a trusted family member or boarding are all workable options. For boarding, an earlier drop-off keeps your cat away from the busiest part of the move. Check Kuro's full admission requirements before booking, including the accepted vaccination records or vet memo and current parasite treatment.

While the house is in boxes

If you choose boarding, your cat can stay in a private suite while you pack, load and unpack. Every suite has its own camera, so you can check in without waiting for an update. Daily photos and videos are included as well.

Kuro Cat Hotel is cat-only and occupies a conserved shophouse at 21A Kreta Ayer Road, about two minutes from Maxwell MRT. You can see the four private suite options and their layouts before choosing one.

Prepare one room before collection

Set up one room in the new home with litter, food, water and something that smells familiar. Close the windows and doors, clear away tools and packing materials, and check that there is nowhere unsafe to hide. Bring your cat into that room first and let them explore the rest of the home at their own pace.

Keep feeding times and medication schedules close to normal. There is no need to unpack the whole home before collection; the first room simply needs to be quiet, secure and ready for them.
